Where to Stay in Amsterdam: Hotel Casa 400

Last month I took a short trip to the city of Amsterdam. I imagined the decision concerning where to stay would be a challenge..

There are so many hotels, it seems like every direction you turn you see another one attempting to entice you in.

Luckily, Hotel Casa 400 invited me to stay at their hotel, taking the challenge right out of my hands. Here’s the details from my stay.

Number of Rooms:

520

Where it is Located:

Hotel Casa 400 is located in the Eastern part of Amsterdam. It is a mere three minutes walk from Amstel Station – where you can get to the city centre in less than 10 minutes.

What Sets it Apart:

In its current location since April 2010, Hotel Casa 400 is a new and modern building. Despite having 13 conference rooms and over 500 guest rooms, the hotel has a calm and relaxing atmosphere that belies its size. The rooms are comfortable and the location is perfect for getting into the centre without being right in the busy chaos that is sometimes Amsterdam. Add this together with a very reasonable price and you have the perfect combination.

Who Stays Here:

Business travellers, individuals attending conferences and (large) groups. The easy connection to the city centre, however, make Hotel Casa 400 also well suited for anyone looking for a less expensive but good quality hotel when staying in Amsterdam.

The Look:

Hotel Casa 400 sports a clean, crisp and minimalist look with a pop of colour and extra touches in all the right places. As you step into the hotel you are greeted by floor to ceiling windows and an open, airy atrium. Large tables and ample sofas provide the perfect relaxation spot for when you don’t want to be in your room.

Dining:

There is the possibility to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. Restaurant Circles has 70 seats and a covered terrace with 50 seats. The generous breakfast offerings are a mixture of hot dishes and Continental breakfast options. From 16:00 to 01:00 it is also possible to grab light dishes, snacks and drinks at Bar Upstairs. In the reception area of the hotel are also vending machines for a late night snack.

The Rooms:

No matter if you are in a one or two person room at Hotel Casa 400, the rooms are nicely sized and feature a 2.10 meter long bed, working area, flat screen TV, wardrobe, and an empty fridge for you to use. The en-suite bathroom has everything you would expect an en-suite bathroom to have. All rooms have a shower, bathtubs are not available. There are also rooms with a connecting door and one room adapted for disabled guests.

The room continues the hotel’s overall look with white walls, grey carpet and little pops of colour here and there, which personally I loved. The room was more than comfortable and I didn’t feel like every noise I made would disturb my neighbours.

Staff:

The staff at Hotel Casa 400 are polite, helpful and friendly. They spent plenty of time with me explaining how to get to the two locations I wanted to visit and explained which route would be the fastest.

Thumbs Up:

The huge bed, free internet, ice machine, the video showing you the walking route from the station and the extremely quiet housekeeping staff.

Thumbs Down:

With 520 rooms and only 100 parking spaces in the car park, together with a first-come first-serve policy, I’d be a little worried about arriving to find all the spaces taken – especially since I worry about things like that.

Luckily it is also possible to park on the street, at a slightly higher day rate than in the car park, and from what I could see there were plenty of spaces.
