What: Vlammetje – a fried snack food that looks like a mini spring roll. The inside is filled with a spicy ground beef mixture.
Why: Vlammetjes first hit the market in the 80’s. The name and the flame image became a registered trademark in 1983.
Where: Vlammetjes are often sold at snack bars or in the freezer section of the supermarket. However, they are harder to find now-a-days, so a food outlet store like Makro might be the best way to go.
When: Whenever you would like.
Varieties: There are a few varieties kicking around. For example, we saw the normal flavour and a sate flavour.
How Much [Should I Eat]: These are pretty spicy, especially if you eat several in a row. They are, though, quite tasty. So I’d say pile them in.
Pas Op! (Watch Out!): Vlammetjes earn their name because they are supposed to be so spicy that they literally set your mouth on fire (vlam = flame).

I saw these in the AH just today! I've never noticed them before and almost bought some and went for the oh so healthy kaas souffle instead... haha!
That's hilarious because my Dutchie has been looking for them at AH for ages and couldn't find them! Mmmmm kaas souffle...mmmmmm.....
I'm not sure how to pronounce it but I think I would like these little spicy pockets. :)
I am never good at writing out the pronunciation of things but try this vlam (exactly as it looks) - et - jes (j like in jaws, e like u in ugh and then the s. They are pretty good but not something I would be wanting on a regular basis.
