What:  Bakboter – a liquid butter like product used to cook meat and prepare a thin ‘gravy’ with.

Why:  According to Croma’s website, one of the main brands, bakboter is “a cooking product to prepare delicious meat with.  It browns and seals the meat quickly, so you get nice, tender, juicy meat.”

Where:  Bakboter is found in the refrigerated section of the grocery store.

When:  Bakboter is readily available throughout the year.

Varieties: There are several varieties of bakboter, from the original to those with olive oil, plus light versions.  There are of course multiple brands and also solid versions that come in a rectangular shape.

How Much [Should I Eat]:  Well, you shouldn’t really be eating bakboter per se but when you use it for cooking, a couple of tablespoons are usually used.

Pas Op! (Watch Out!):  Bakboter likes to splatter so be careful when cooking with it and protect those delicate arms.
