Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon. -Doug Larson
Bacon isn’t on this list but then again, neither are green vegetables. If you are heading to the Netherlands, then make sure you find at least a few of the items on this list and consume them with enjoyment.
What would you add to the list?

Yep. Holland is not the most health country to live in.
I was trying to think of a nice healthy list I could add here in the comments, but I've got nothing. ;)
First of all - Now I am REALLY hungry! Secondly - I have book marked this for when we revisit this beautiful city later this year! Thank you!
Apologies for the hunger but great that you have some tips for your next visit. :)
I would add that cheese-infused lightly spiced sausage that you can find in most butchers and is served at all family get-togethers. So tasty! I assume it's Dutch, I haven't found it anywhere else.
Tell me more about this cheese-infused lightly spiced sausage that you speak of!
You can find it at most butchers and in the Albert Heijn as well, though it's not as good. It's called grillworst met kaas, you should definitely add it to your list. It's a firm family favourite here. :)
Added to the list. I think I have seen it now I think about it but I am pretty sure I haven't tried it yet.
Kibbeling and Hema worst. Can't live without them on my trips to Deventer. Not to mention hagelslag & bitterkoekje.
Also good additions to the list. I almost added hagelslag. I'm actually allergic to fish and seafood so can't join in on the kibbeling vote but I have to say that seasoning smells super delicious. I am always jealous of people eating it for the smell of the seasoning alone and I thought I would never be jealous of people eating fish!
My Oma makes the best meatballs which i only get when in Holland. They are made with Rusk and a special spice mix. They are huge and always served with potatoes. Yummy!!!
Hi Rosanne, now you are making me hungry. We have a butcher nearby that makes some really good meatballs but there is nothing better than an Oma recipe. :) Thanks for stopping by!
I miss on this list: "Hollandse Nieuwe", "Brabants Worstenbroodje"
Both very good suggestions for the list. :)
I'd add: Van Dobben or Kwekkeboom Kroket (with or without a broodje but never without mustard) Vocking Worst (only available in the Utrecht area. Also great on a broodje) Haagse Hopjes (coffee candy, available in most supermarkets) Nutricia Chocolate Milk (drink it cold in a mug) A nice fresh big warm Stroopwafel from the stand.
Hi Irma, Thanks for stopping by! I am going to have to find a Vocking Worst now...I'm intrigued. :)
1. Drop (liquorice) 2. Patatje oorlog (fries with mayo and peanut sauce) 3. Snert (very well filled peasoup) 4. Holandse nieuwe(Dutch style herring) 5. Oliebollen (doughnut like) 6. Kroketten and Bitterballen 7. Boterham met hagelslag 8. Sukerbole 9. Stampot met rookworst 10. Beerenburg, advocaat, jenever etc. 6. Kristen
Stampot met rookworst. Veel gegeten toen ik op school was in Amsterdam in een studenten eetzaal. Je wast borden en krijg jou eten vrij.
