Rotterdam has won the 2010 IFEA World Festival and Event City Award. The award is given to four cities each year and recognizes positive local environments for festivals and events worldwide. The award is broken into four population categories, of which Rotterdam won the award for the second largest category, population 500,000 to 1 million.
Anyone who is familiar with Rotterdam knows that it is a city bursting with festivals and events, especially in the summer. Summer carnival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Red Bull Air Race, Rotterdam Marathon and even the departure of the Tour de France have all appeared on the agenda and that is only the tip of the iceberg.
We may complain about the disruption to getting to the city centre but you have to admit it is an energetic, active and exciting place to live. To take a look at just how active Rotterdam is or just to marvel at the list of festivals that happened this year, take a look at their application for the award.
Congratulations Rotterdam, you deserved it!
